Welcome to the internet home of First United Methodist Church of Lompoc. We are one of the oldest United Methodist Churches in California, people first assembled for worship as Methodists in Lompoc in 1874; soon after the city was laid out, 133 years later we are still singing and praising God every day of the week.

We are pleased this year to be the cultural home of many of the premier musical groups in the area: The Lompoc Valley Master Chorale, the Lompoc Pops Orchestra, the Lompoc Community Concert Series, as well as our own First Methodist Organ Concerts.
When you think of music in Lompoc, you think of First Methodist FIRST.

First UMC, is also a church that is committed to making a difference in the world around us. We serve and support numerous missions both locally and around the world.

We are pleased that you found our web presence and we hope you will find your way into our worship services and into our membership soon.

Palm Sunday
April 5

March 27, 2020

Dear Ones,

As we conclude our first ten days of staying "safer at home", I know that many of you are wishing for the comfort of your church friends as soon as possible. However, it is clear that "soon" is a moving target, and we don't have a specific date for returning to worship.

In my original letter to you, I said we would not worship together on March 22nd or March 29th, now I must tell you that we will not worship with each other on Palm/Passion Sunday, April 5th. This personally saddens me as I love the seasons of Lent and Easter and I looked forward to joining with all of you as your pastor for the first time this year.

For now, we will take it week by week to make a decision about a return to worship. That decision will be based on what the medical experts are saying, and what our bishop and Gov. Newsom will permit. For now, please continue to check the website each week to get your updates on First United Methodist Church of Lompoc.

Fortunately, I have just received some guidelines on how we might take communion together in the month of April. It will take a little work, but I believe we can coordinate it together. Look for more information on this in the coming week.

I will continue to record and upload the weekly sermon to our website. I am also going to experiment with Facebook Live this Sunday. If you are on Facebook and have "Liked" the church's page, you will be able to see me share the message live at 10:30. Fingers crossed that it works!

My heart aches for each of you, I miss you and am continuing to pray for you every day. Please feel free to call me on my cellphone anytime you want to talk or need assistance. Know that our Lord is embracing all of His creation at this time. He knows our pain and weeps with us as Covid-19 ravages our planet. Most importantly on the other side of this disease He will raise us up again.

Grace and peace,
Pastor Joy
